The best of all seasons is celebrated at Michaan's in November with “The Personification of Autumn,” an allegorical female portrait from the circle of Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Pre-Raphaelite painting has a huge and diverse following of passionate admirers, and many bids are expected for this wonderful work estimated at $50,000-$80,000. California artists Raimonds Staprans and Richard Diebenkorn are also featured. Ansel Adams' photograph of a San Francisco factory is estimated at $5,000-$7,000. Tiffany Studios glass illuminates the auction gallery with a rare pair of hanging three-light sconces, a classic “acorn” leaded glass table lamp and a pair of graceful “Aladdin” bronze floor lamps. A Steinway baby grand piano, caned and chrome Herman Miller chairs, and Philip and Kelvin Laverne's etched bronze “kuan su” side table are featured. A graceful carved wood Guanyin, 64 inches tall, is one of many Asian art treasures of excellent provenance. Japanese woodblock prints include works by Joichi Hoshi, Tadashi Nakayama and Chiura Obata. Collectors will find French art glass by Daum and an irresistible pair of Meissen pugs. Estate jewelry ranges in estimated price from $300-$25,000 and includes a large GIA-certified Colombian emerald ring, spectacular diamonds, and a Tiffany brooch of 18k gold and luscious carved coral cherries ($8,000-$12,000). Choose elegant gifts from November's glittering menagerie of animal-themed fine jewelry, typical of the estate pieces offered by Michaan's Auctions each month.
