Modern artworks and Danish Modern furniture headline Michaan’s March auction of fine art and estate treasures. Highlights include etchings and lithographs by Miro and Chagall, a Picasso ceramic, and an etching by Chinese modernist Zao Wou Ki (1920-2013). California landscapes by acclaimed painters William Keith and Maynard Dixon are featured. Depression-era oil paintings by illustrator Oscar Frederick Schmidt (1892-1957) celebrate industry and the American worker. Fine Mid-Century Modern furniture includes Hans Wegner’s “Papa Bear” chair and a pair of upholstered “pot” chairs by Nanna Ditzel. The sale offers Asian treasures from many periods such as amber beads, carved jade, bronze Buddhist figures, famille rose porcelains and Chinese rosewood furniture, and a fine faux tortoise shell ink stone and brush pot. Collectors of Tiffany Studios Favrile glass, Royal Copenhagen china and Gorham sterling will discover great finds. Unique estate pieces include a pink opalescent Murano glass chandelier, an Italian red marble altar, and a whimsical German Black Forest carved wood donkey, jauntily dressed as a gentleman with top hat and cane. Standouts in the selection of fine estate jewelry are the stunning 18k gold ring centering a thirty-carat citrine surrounded by diamonds, and the large Art Deco diamond and platinum pendant brooch. Fine designer jewelry includes a pair of 18k gold cocoon earrings by Barry Kieselstein-Cord.
