The Jewelry Department offers a wide variety of diamonds, colored gemstones, precious metals and quality timepieces at auction. Period pieces are offered, dating to as far back as the eighteenth century. Jewelry represented in the monthly auction often includes Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Arts and Crafts and Mid-Century Modern pieces. Contemporary styles are also regularly available, with a selection that includes custom-made, artisan and designer fashion jewelry. Internationally acclaimed manufacturers have also frequently been included in Michaan’s Auctions sales, as seen in names such as Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Patek Philippe and Rolex.
Substantial stones and specialty jewelry items continually present rare buying opportunities at Michaan’s to bidders from around the world. Examples seen on the auction room floor include an approximate 14.75 carat emerald necklace sold in 2013 to the tune of $141,600 as well as Michaan’s first ever presentation of a Kashmir sapphire of approximately 3.70 carats in 2014 that realized $129,800. Adding to the intrigue at auction has been a decidedly unique Jean Vendome artisan necklace, an assortment of Ippolita fashion pieces, jewelry relics from the movie classic The Thief of Bagdad, custom-made creations from Barbara Fouts featuring her Queen of Hearts Collection, certified jadeite jades, ethnic and tribal jewelry and bead collections.
Michaan’s estate jewelry is offered in monthly Gallery Auctions as well as in regularly scheduled Annex Auctions.
