Video Highlight

Huanghuali Abacus

Roll over for video transcript This classic Chinese abacus with a custom made twist highlights the Asian Department’s portion of the sale at an estimate of $300-500. The Chinese calculator features eleven columns of circular huanghuali counting beads, in a naturally beautiful, purple hued tone. This abacus was then converted into a desktop accessory, held by a framed rosewood stand of custom proportions. The Chinese name for abacus is directly translated as "counting tray," a nod to its more common orientation. The custom made Asian abacus will be made available to bidders as lot 204 in Michaan’s first estate auction of 2015 on Sunday, January the 4th. Join us on January 4 for a chance to buy huanghuali abacus at auction.
